In Memory

John Anthony "Tony" Gilliam

Tony entered the steel business in 1971 after obtaining a degree in engineering. He worked at various steel companies, eventually becoming General Manager for several of them.  The structures he built during his career dot the entire state of North Carolina.

He was active in Pocket Presbyterian Church as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Scout Leader, and was often seen doing construction and grounds maintenence with the Men of the Church. He was active in the Sanford Exchange Club for 30 years, serving twice as President and one of those years was while he was in treatment for cancer. On two occasions he won the Exchangite of the Year Award.

He was a founding member of the Northwest Pocket Volunteer Fire Department and was Chairman of the Board until retirement from the department.  Most of all he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.  "Dangarry" is missed by all who knew him.

I knew Tony from the 1st grade and will always remember his easy smile and a disposition that matched the smile. I would bump into him and Linda from time to time and it was always a pleasure to see him and catch up on the "good old days."

My condolences to Linda and the children.

A life well lived!
